Terra Incognita culture is all about survival on very little
and keeping the God of the Sky pleased by offering up a sacrificial animal of
some sort, preferably a larger animal. They are a very hard working group that
likes to hunt and fish. Tattoos are very common as people are encouraged to
express themselves in body art and other forms of art such as paintings or
carvings. The terrain and ecosystem is a very wet and wooded forest that can
change from flatland to a mountainous terrain rather quickly. They tend to
sleep up in the trees as much as possible due to the amount of rain they get. The
Institution of most importance is their God. Keeping the God of the Sky pleased
consumes a great deal of their time but even more so when weather conditions
worsen. If weather gets continually worse they can even go as far as to use a
human sacrifice. As much as they do not take their worship lightly they are a
lighthearted people that celebrate frequently on occasions such as birthdays,
independence day, and breaks in the bad weather they might have. Song and dance
is very important in these celebrations and can include anything from facial
decoration to dancing with fire. Family is also very important to them as they
never marry unless the entire family can agree on a partner. If there is not an
agreement you can still have a child but it is taken up and supervised by the
elderly and not the parents of the child. Families usually live in one area
together where they grow their own crops and make their own tools from what
animals they kill. Men are regarded closely with how skilled they are at
hunting. If a man comes back with nothing to show for himself it is seen an
embarrassment to the family as a whole and there can even be some hostility
towards them from other tribe members. Knowledge is also a skill the Terra
incognita are adamant about. Usually it is the elderly who are the teachers and
children are sent to learn at a young age how to survive, communicate, and
learn about the God of the sky. As they grow and get older school becomes
dominated by the women as the men are typically busy trying to provide food and
shelter during the days. Weaving baskets , making tools and clothing , and
medicinal studies are just a few things the women might learn in a typical day.
The terra incognita tribe can be a very strict group in terms of their religion
and men and women but can be mistaken as a mean group of people. They take
serious situations seriously but like to celebrate the good times as well and don’t
take happy moments for granted. They welcome strangers who do not mean any harm
and usually have no problem with anyone who is interested in learning a few
things about their culture and way of life.
1.) Terra Incognita are a great tree living people, who value their environment, and are closely tied to nature, and their God of the sky, Sustaining them selves on very little and moving quite often due to the wet climate. Living in a family groups were the men hunt and the woman handle the domestic work. The Terra Incognita are monotheistic people who spend a large amount of time in worship of their sky god. One of the domestic duties of the women of the terra Incognita is to make tools and to partake in medicinal research. Which raises the question, how and to what existent do the technological developments conflicts with their religious beliefs and how would they resolve such conflicts?
ReplyDelete2.) The Terra Incognita, who I will address as TI for this question, adorn them selves with body art and on special occasions they dress themselves in facial decorations and dance with fire. This celebrating takes place quite often, especially when the weather allows them the opportunity to come down from the trees to work their fields. They will offer sacrifices to the God of the sky and when times are bad they may even offer up a sacrificial animal to appease the God of the sky. Because of the importance that the TI place in their God of the sky, I find myself drawn to the body art and what the mining of the tattoos may have for TI as culture and as individuals, at what time in the TI’s life will the fist tattoos be applied, and more over, to what extent is the link between the tattoos and their faith?
3.) As the Terra Incognita are a free spirited and fun loving people and who celebrate quite often. The Terra Incognita will celebrate through dance and facial decoration. Music seams to be a very large part of there culture and which is all for the God of the sky who when he is happy will bring good fortune and plentiful crops and game. And as I observed the Terra incognita I noticed a small drum that is only brought out when they are celebrating and is used for nothing else. The Terra Incognita will use almost every thing in more than one way in order to maximize the use of the tool. There for, I would like to know what is the drum representative of and why only use for the celebrating?
3133Blogger as I viewed your blog I was impressed by the thoroughness of the over view of the Terra Incognita People. I found several things interesting about the blog, such as the educational institute. I find that the Terra Incognita continue to use there elderly in such a role as teacher and mentor. I was also impressed to see that the ageing of the children the teaching responsibility is passed on to the parents. This creates a very well round education for the children booth socially and technically. The attributes of the faith are intriguing and the way the decorations during the celebrating seam to unify the Terra Incognita as a people and a family group. The tie or knot of the family unit is very important to Terra Incognita and the symbol that they use is the knot. I would like to read more about the symbol of the knot, and the depth of the unity of family. The knot could be explored to a grater extent in order to justify the true strength and lasting of the family unit and how the Terra Incognita use their religion to strengthen this tie. I find this knot on most of the Terra Incognita and would love to read more about the link between the symbol and what it represents.
